Subjects in the test who followed vegetarianism lowered their blood pressure and cholesterol levels versus those who ate meat and fish regularly. As a result, they experienced 32 percent fewer hospital admissions due to heart attacks.
The study was among the first to isolate vegetarianism in the research. Other studies had included it along with other lifestyle factors like exercise and use of tobacco. For that reason, the outcome of this study was significant.
